The Human Edge

Using AI with Judgement

Everyone has the same AI tools now. The edge is judgement.

Generic competence used to be an advantage. It is now the baseline. This book and masterclass are about the part AI cannot manufacture: knowing what to ask, deciding how much to trust the answer, checking it from outside the tool, and keeping a person in charge where the stakes require it.

The book is in manuscript. The one-day masterclass is running.

The Human Edge: Using AI with Judgement by Michael Borck

AI can do the work. It cannot carry the consequence.

The problem

Fluent output is not the same as good work.

A report arrives. It is fluent, well structured, and complete. So does a data brief, a proposal, and a plan for a difficult conversation. Any professional with Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini can now produce work that looks like this, in minutes.

The failure is hard to spot. A rushed human draft looks rushed, and the gaps show. An AI output that is wrong arrives polished, complete, and confident, in the same tone as an output that is right. The instinct you have spent your career building stays quiet exactly when you need it.

The four moves

Judge. Brief. Check. Deliver.

01

Judge

Trust Tool

How much should I trust this output? A ten-second habit for every output.

02

Brief

RTCF

How do I ask for what I need? Build a prompt library that holds up.

03

Check

Check Loop

How do I know it is right? Verify the claim from outside the tool.

04

Deliver

Opportunity Finder

Will it work every week? Put it into a real workflow with human checkpoints.

Research basis

Why the transfer works.

The argument draws on peer-reviewed research on cognitive strategy transfer. The paper explains why human complexity-management strategies improve LLM output, and where the transfer breaks down. It is conceptual research, not a study of consulting outcomes.

The method underneath

Conversation, not delegation.

The Human Edge is the workplace book. Conversation, Not Delegation is the method underneath it: the discipline of thinking with AI instead of handing the thinking over. The four moves in this book are that method applied to the work you sign your name to.

For teams

Bring the masterclass to your team.

A one-day program built from the book. Four sessions, eight exercises, four reusable tools. It is for professionals who need to decide what AI should do, what a person must still own, and how to explain that choice to a client or a regulator.
